International pediatric Association was constituted in 1908. The I.P.A. now consist of 138 National Pediatric Societies and 9 International Societies of Pediatric specialties. The control of policies of IPA is vested in the council of National delegate which consists of, one from each member society country.

The objective of IPA are :-
•    Encourage research in all aspects of pediatrics
•    Promote the dissemination of pediatric knowledge
•    Hold an international congress, normally once in three years
•    Co-operate with national, regional and international bodies with similar interests, encourage regional pediatrics meeting as well as international and regional meeting of pediatric specialties, sponsoring those meeting approved by the standing committee.

The council of National delegates meets in the official meeting organized by IPA once in 3 years at the International Pediatrics Congress.
Indian Academy of Pediatrics is one of the member of IPA. Inspite of being a populous country, number of IAP are quite few, as compared to may other countries, but as for as voting power & representation is concerned, it is for each member country.
Looking to the activities of IPA, the central office at Mumbai should regularly send reports about its progress, & activities to IPA. There are various sub-committee of IPA in various fields, where members are appointed. Name of senior pediatrician who have done outstanding work in field like Environmental Medicine Infectious disease, Nutrition etc. should be sent with a brief Biodata to IPA so that they could be considered, when these sub- committee are constituted.
